Hedge Mustard
(Sisybrium officinale)

This is a NOT native plant.

I do not know what part of the world it originally came from.
It showed up here sumer of 2000.
This group of very happy plants is growing at the top of our pile of town compost! The plants are about 30 inches tall. Perhaps the compost was near a plant or two over at the town recycling center.
This close up photo of the smooth branching stems and the little flowers gives a good feel for the lush tangle.

At the base of the plant is a rosette of these highly indented large leaves.

Study Pointers:
- Compare the stem at its base to the stem part of broccoli . Both plants are members of the Brassicaceae (Mustard) Family and I think you will spot the resemblance. It cuts just like broccolli.
